Tips for a successful diet

Have you ever fail to success in a diet?I am sure the answer is yes.

Everybody has started a diet and has fail at any point. But don’t worry, every fail is not more than one extra step to success.

If you continue reading you will find some tips that will help you meet your objectives and to identify your mistakes as a learning opportunity and not as a demotivation.

First of all I will say to Keep it simple, keeping things simple in general help to success on whatever that we are looking for.

Don’t overcomplicate yourself with impossible things to do, patterns to follow, money to spend or impossible objectives. Just be yourself and believe that what you have been doing a long time is the most likely thing that will happen again. Then you will be better to define your objectives in a realistic way, understanding your strengths and weaknesses and make changes gradually to keep then for a long term.

For example, If you like sport why not base your objective on increasing exercise gradually weekly, rather than try to eat smaller portions from the first day?

If you increase the exercise gradually you will be able to adapt your diet necessities to your requirements. Remember use your strengths and from them adapt your weaknesses gradually.

Other very important tip is to maintain our commitment to our objectives, to achieve this the only thing you need is to define the objective that you really want, will give you enough energy to commit day after day.

Other way to keep motivated is to involve people that are around you (family, friends, partner, colleagues…). People will be able to support you when a difficult time comes and of course we always commit more when more people is involved as it makes us accountable of our target.

Sometimes doing things together other times just because we want to prove that we can do it, and of course, we can.

Once you have shared your objectives with them, why notshare your feelings too?

Talk with people that is following a similar diet than you, will make you not feel alone, at the end of the day most of us have similar problems and difficulties. This will help you to see everything from another point of view.

Another top tip is to change your objectives if needed. That means that your objective should have certain degree of flexibility when you define them.

Sometimes we define those objectives and are just not achievable, will be just a learning opportunity. Redefine them and continue that if you are on this point you have won most of the battle.

Seek professional advice if you believe that this extra support is needed. Sometimes we don´t know enough to manage everything by ourselves. In this case look for someone that will be happy to help you and that is more experienced than you on the theme.

I had thousands of mistakes following diets and trying to meet objectives. I believe I will continue having thousands of them but trust me I have learnt from all this falls.

I believe I could help you if you need some extra support or even a enhanced guidance that will drive you to the success in your nutritional objectives.

The Mediterranean Diet

I am going to talk about the famous Mediterranean diet, famous for be healthy, tasty and cheap.

The Mediterranean diet is a sort of feeding from the countries that are in the Mediterranean Sea, that is normally from the foods that they have available in that area because of their geographical location.
This diet has studies supporting that maintains health, decreasing the risk of cardiovascular disease and obesity, as well for following a more active lifestyle.

The WHO (World Health Organisation) recognize this diet as a quality, healthy and sustainable food model. Whose main ingredients are olive oil, cereals, fresh or dried fruits and vegetables, a moderate proportion of meat, fish and dairy products, and abundant seasonings and spices, whose consumption at the table is accompanied by friends/family wine or infusions, respecting always the beliefs of each community.

Six advices for get inside of the Mediterranean diet:

1-Moderation in the consumption of red meat (beef, pork, sheep) and eggs.
2-Increasing the intake of foods rich in complex carbohydrates (bread, pulses, pasta, potatoes, rice, etc).
3-Using olive oil instead of other fats.
4-Consume daily dairy products with moderation.
5-Keep the consumption of fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts and fish regularly and as part of a weekly/daily habit.
6-Moderation in the consumption of pastries sweets and ice cream.

This diet is from the Mediterranean countries, but why don’t adapt this diet for us if we know that is going to help us to feel well and live a healthier life, why only bring from others cultures the bad habits and don´t try to bring the good ones? I choose to bring those that help our community to have healthy children and adults.

In my opinion is very interesting to try to follow a Mediterranean diet (or introduce some patterns from that diet) because is not only giving to us healthy habits, is giving to as an amazing library of tasty recipes.

As you know I am Spanish, always interested in the Mediterranean diet, and I will give to you amazing recipes from different countries to impress your people and to incorporate in your diet/recipe book.
If you have listened any Spanish recipe and you are interested in knowing how to replicate it, let me know and I will explain you the recipe and how to include it in a healthy diet.

Discover the truth of the fad and miracle diets.

I am going to explain in this post what is a fad and miracle diet, is a very important theme to talk about because millions of people is having health problems for don´t know how to identify one of this fake diets that probably only will give to your problems.

The fad diets and miracle diets are these ones that promise an easy way for reach a difficult goal, like loose 10 kg in 1 month or have a six-pack in two months.

This diets are easy to follow during a short time because they give to us the false motivation and solutions for our problems, but they are giving to us other things as well as health problems, have to pay loads of money and have a really bad time during the diet, this can cause several problems for our body health and mental health too.

I am a dietitian and I always follow the rules of the science, keeping the health state and the wellness in our lives, for that I am completely disagree with this sort of diets that promise to us a big change in a small period of time, like my mum use to say to me “who wants something, something cost”, and thinking about health I prefer to spend time and effort than spend this health because when is gone, is not going to be a problem this extra kilos in our body.

Six facts to identify a miracle diet:

1-They promise easy ways for reach big results

2-Short period of time

3-Expendsive fees

4-They try to sell something

5-They are not science based or if they are is not following the health way

6-They avoid a group of food or nutrient/foods

If you identify all or some of these facts in a diet probably is a miracle diet, which one I don´t recommend to follow, I recommend to you go to a dietitian to have your assessment, may be this one will be more difficult at the start but later will be the most easy way for reach your nutritional goals.
